{Favorite} Back to School Books!

It's hard to believe we are already two weeks into the school year! One of my favorite parts of the beginning of the year are the fun read alouds that I get to share with my class! I wanted to share some of my {favorites} for the first week of school!

First Day Jitters is a MUST READ on the first day! It's a great way to talk about your feelings on the first day and let the kids know that you were nervous, too!

The Name Jar is a perfect read aloud to discuss being respectful! It's about a little girl from Korea named Unhei that is nervous to share her name with her new classmates, so they try and give her ideas for a name! It's a sweet story and I love it because of my own unusual name :) After reading the book, my students brainstormed ways that they could be respectful in our classroom!

Tattle Tale Tounge is GREAT! Joshua is a little boy that tattles, tattles, tattles! Until one day, his mom teaches him about Tattle Tounge! The Tattle Prince shows up and teaches Joshua an important lesson about tattling and warnings! Great read to discuss tattling in your own classroom and if/when it is necessary! My kids worked in groups to brainstorm examples of tattling and warnings!

I always read The Crayon Box That Talked and this year I read The Day the Crayons Quit along with it! They are wonderful to teach community and the importance of being unique! I always have my students decorate their own crayons and we discuss why it is important that we all work together as a class!

Teaching about the invisible buckets is a {must-do!}! These are seriously GREAT books and are packed with an amazing lesson that is kid-friendly! Students learn that everyone has an invisible bucket and you can be a {bucket filler} or a {bucket dipper}. I love that the books share that when you dip another person's buckets- it empties your own as well! My students brainstormed examples of being bucket fillers and bucket dippers! We use this idea in our Morning Meeting and Afternoon Meetings each day- and discuss who filled our buckets!

What are your favorite back to school books!? I'd love to add more to my list!

Happy Teaching!

Meet the Teacher Blogger {Linky}

I just {love} reading teaching blogs- I'm pretty obsessed! I've found some amazing teacher bloggers and have learned some pretty amazing new things to implement in my own classroom. Stephanie over at Falling Into First came up with a great linky for everyone to get to know each other a little better! The Meet the Teacher {Linky} is so much fun!

My name is Chandra and I'm a 28 year old teacher, wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend, crafter, Stella & Dot stylist, shopaholic and iced coffee addict! I try to squeeze a lot into my life- and I wouldn't change anything! This is my 7th year (seriously!?!) teaching! I taught first grade for four years and I've been in second for the last three! I just {LOVE} teaching the primary grades!

I married my best friend on May 31, 2008! 6 years and going strong! I love him so incredibly much. He's seriously my rock- I'd be completely lost without him! We actually met in an education class in college! He's an Academic Coach at another elementary school in our district!

Our little family means the world to me! Camden and Cora are my heart and I am {so} incredibly blessed to be their mommy. It really is the most rewarding job!

These are a few of my favorite things!

My Erin Condren Planner. My Tieks. My Michael Kors Watch.

If you weren't a teacher, what would you want to be?

In high school, I would have {loved} to work on some sort of magazine! I was on the yearbook staff and just loved creating! But now, I would actually LOVE to be a stay at home mom! I'd still need something on the side to keep me busy and have some adult interaction, but I'd love to be home with my littles!

Three little words that describe you.

Blessed. Happy. Driven.

Finish the sentence, " ____," said no teacher EVER!

"I just LOVE filling out paperwork!" said no teacher EVER!

It's your birthday and you can invite anyone, dead or alive to your party, who are you inviting?

My best friends and my family! They are my favorites!

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would be the title?

Just Keep Smiling!

You get to pick one superpower, what is it?

To be in two places at once! I absolutely LOVE teaching, but I sure would love to spend my day with my sweet little baby too :)

If you had one song to sing on Idol, what would it be?

This is a hard one- I am a HORRIBLE singer! But, I've got to go with "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey- that is one I always have to belt out! :)

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I wouldn't say I'm a morning person, I hate getting out of bed! And, I wouldn't say I'm a night owl because I need my sleep! Can I just be a day person :)

What's your favorite resource that you've created in your TPT shop?

By far, my favorite product is my The Organized Teacher Notebook! It is my goal to be more organized this year!!

Share something we might not know about you.

I'm a little obessed with jewelry, so I became a Stella and Dot stylist! Check out the amazing jewels here

My FAVORITE earrings- the Serenity Stone Drops!

Make sure to head back to Stephanie's blog and check out all the other amazing teachers!!!

Happy Teaching,

First Week of School!

I made it! I survived the first week back to school as a {mommy of two}! I'm exhausted and my house is a complete disaster, but it's over! Now, how many weeks are left!?

I wanted to share some of my favorite activities that my class and I completed this week! I always {love} planning for the first week of school. I just love all the fun activities that I get to do with my kids- communitiy building, getting to know you, and some fun little crafts!

On the first day, we started out with my favorite yarn activity. You can read all about that here! Then, we read First Day Jitters and got rid of the jitters with some fabulous Jitter Juice!

Speaking of Jitter Juice- if you teach second grade, you MUST get Babbling Abby's amazing product SUPER IN SECOND! This product has been a complete lifesaver for the first week of school! The Jitter Juice section is the perfect addition for first day fun! I also just {love} the Find-A-Friends!

I couldn't let the first day get by without taking some picture of my little cuties! I made this adorable little frame using my Silhouette Cameo and can't wait to use it at the end of the year too!

We also talked about our classroom rules and expectations A LOT! This year my school has began utilizing PBIS! So far, I LOVE it! I've always had a positive behavior system implemented in my classroom- not a huge fan of clip charts! So, this is just perfect for me! Students are able to earn tickets throughout the entire school to use in our school store and for monthly grade level incentives! Does anyone else use PBIS in their school? I'd love to know more about how you use it in your classroom! I made these posters to hang in my room to go along with our classroom and school wide rules!

To learn more about each other, we completed this All About Me Pencil Craftivity. Students were able to complete the little booklet and a pencil craftivity all in one! It sure made a cute little display in the hallway!

What are some of your favorite activities to do the first week of school?

Happy Teaching,
