Happy 2015!

Seriously, it's 2015 people! I can't believe that it's really already the year 2015!!!  Time is flying by!

I had the most amazing Christmas break with my family. Lots of family time, cleaning, organizing, lunch dates, and shopping trips! I am so fortunate that I got to spend two weeks with my husband and our two little loves!

How could I not love soaking up every second with these two little cuties!?

But, now it's time to head back to school and get back into our daily routine. Not looking forward to that 4:30am alarm clock waking me up each day!

I wanted to share some of my favorite activities for the first week of school after winter break.

I always treat this week as a fresh beginning. That means going over rules, procedures and expectations. If things weren't working in your classroom before, this is a perfect time to change things up! For me, Daily 5 hasn't been going as smoothly as I would like so I am going to start over from the beginning- stamina graphs, charts, and all! What are you planning on changing after the break!?

On the first day back, I always read Squirrel's New Year's Resoultion by Pat Miller. Seriously, THE perfect book to introducing resolutions and goals to little ones! It's about a sweet little squirrel that tries to find a resolution, all the while helping her friends throughout the forest! If you don't have the book, you can share this great video with your class of the book being read aloud!

I found this {amazing} poem by the Panicked Teacher a couple years ago and absolutely LOVE it! I go through the poem stanza by stanza with my students, and we have a big discussion on what a resolution really is and how they cna create their own! It's an awesome freebie in her store, so you definitely need to check it out!!

I always love having my kids work on a fun craft the week we get back to wrap up all our discussions on resolutions. I created this fun Party Hat Writing Craftivitiy so that students could write about their own resolutions and then create a fun party hat booklet! Make sure to check out my Instagram next week to see our finished products!

What are you favorite activities to do in your classrooms the week after our exciting winter break!? I'd love some fun, new ideas!

And, did you happen to notice my beautiful new blog! Megan at A Bird in Hand Designs created it for me, and I am completely in {love}! She was amazing to work with and is extremely talented!!!

Hope everyone has a fabulous week!
