As teachers, we have moments. Big moments. Little moments. Moments that keep us going and show us why we are doing what we do. Sometimes these moments are few and far between. And sometimes, it takes years for us to realize the impact we made on another human being.
But they happen, and when they do they make us remember exactly why we became teachers in the first place.
Over the course of my short career I have had the opportunity to work at three different elementary schools. None of my moves have been by choice, but all of them have made a positive impact on my career. At the time of each transfer, I didn't realize why I was having to move. But, now I completely understand why I was meant to be at each school.
Last night, I got to experience one of those moments. A former student invited me to his home visit from some of his new teachers at the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. Absolutely incredible. Incredibly inspiring. And, made my teacher heart so happy. I am so very proud of this student and excited for his upcoming journey. Truly the most inspring way to start the 2015-2016 school year!
What are some of your moments? If you don't want to share, I would love for you to just take a minute and think about the moments that keep you going in this extremely tough profession. There is a reason we wake up early each morning. Why we drop off our own children to go spend the day with other people's children. Think about those moments. I hope they make your teacher heart happy and inspire your year!
Have a wonderful year! Here's to many wonderful moments!
